Individual rowing brings you about as close to being at one with nature as possible, and can be an intimate and addicting thrill. As you sit just inches above the water level, each thrust - as legs push and arms pull - brings a surge of speed that is nothing less than exhilarating.
And in the Hudson River Valley lies some of the most stunning landscapes anywhere, taking the rowing experience to another level.
Team rowing is another beast - requiring precision teamwork and camaraderie, whether sweep rowing (both hands pulling one oar) or sculling (using two oars while pushing a sliding seat with both legs).
The Hudson River Rowing Association offers all kinds of rowing programs - from beginners' learn-to-row programs to elite competition teams that can find themselves going up against an Olympic developmental team.
Daily Voice visited the HRRA recently and spoke with rowers in a novice rowing class about what they love about the sport, as well as HRRA coach Mark Dinges. Check out the video to see the interview.
HRRA also hosts events including weddings, fundraisers, etc. For more info on the HRRA and their waterfront facilities, check their web site: www.hudsonriverrowing.org.
